The Fringe Theatre Philadelphia is modeled after The Broad Street Theatre, which resided nearby until its demolition in 1937. The exterior of the building is where we took most of the Broad Street Theatre's influence. It was designed in a Moorish style with two large domes that give it visual intrigue. Tying in this old architecture with our innovative style of theatre will help to bridge the gap between those who value historical art and the future of the theatrical world. The interior of our theatre will reflect the ornate style of the outside, while also providing an efficient space for performers and patrons. Our black box rehearsal studio will be located in the basement, along with our props and costume shops. The scene shop will be directly behind stage right so as to easily access the garage-style load in dock. Next to this will be the men’s and women’s dressing rooms connected by a long vanity with makeup lights that are to be shared. This hall area will have doors at either end that lead to the wings off both stage right and stage left. Our stage will be a deep set proscenium with a hydraulic pit. The audience seating will be comprised of 100 seats in the middle of the floor and 50 each on house right and left. The balcony will be set up in the same way which would total to 400 seats.
